Some Hallmark romances use Europe as a postcard. Toast to Italy makes the journey part of the courtship. Jenny, an American doctor with Italian roots, travels overseas before her sister’s wedding to recover the final bottle of her family’s “Love Wine,” an heirloom associated with good fortune for newlyweds. The mission becomes a race when she meets Arrigo, a journalist pursuing the same vintage. As they follow the trail through old towns and wine country, competition gives way to a romance neither expected.

Directed by Michael Robison, the movie stars Torrey DeVitto and Will Kemp. It premieres on Hallmark Channel on August 1, 2026, at 8/7c and streams on Hallmark+ the following day.

Where was Toast to Italy filmed?

Orvieto, Umbria

The clearest filming trail leads to Orvieto, the hilltop city in Umbria’s Province of Terni. The Municipality of Orvieto announced that an international crew of about 50 people would arrive on May 18, 2026, with filming scheduled from May 19 through May 21. Tapeless Film handled production services for the Italian leg.

Orvieto was not used for a few interchangeable travel shots. Municipal officials described the city as a location with a fundamental narrative role and said several important sequences were set there. Local notices used the working title Toast of Italy, while Hallmark is releasing the finished movie as Toast to Italy.

Cathedral and Fortress

The Duomo di Orvieto is the production’s most prominent confirmed landmark. Its position at the end of Via del Duomo gives the movie a natural reveal as Jenny and Arrigo move through the historic center. The public notice confirms the cathedral as a set but does not specify whether cameras entered the building, so interior filming should not be assumed.

Fortezza Albornoz was also named as a filming location. The fortress and its surroundings offer stone walls, greenery and open views beyond the city, a quieter contrast to the activity around the cathedral square. Representatives from Orvieto’s historic procession also participated in the shoot, bringing a genuine piece of local pageantry into the production.

Medieval Street Route

The city’s traffic order provides a precise map of where cameras worked. Filming affected Via del Duomo, Via Garibaldi, Via Cipriano Manente, Piazza San Giovanni and Via Pianzola. Vehicle access was paused as required, while Piazza San Giovanni had an extended parking restriction on May 21.

These streets connect Orvieto’s principal sights with the smaller lanes of its medieval quarter, which suits a story constructed around a search. The authorities have not paired each road with a specific scene, but all five are confirmed filming points rather than landmarks that simply appear somewhere in the background.

Several popular Orvieto attractions, including Pozzo di San Patrizio, Palazzo dei Sette and Palazzo Comunale, may be visible in broad city or aerial shots. They were not named in the official filming order, however, and should not yet be described as confirmed sets.

Hills and Vineyards

The countryside shown in Toast to Italy is also tied to the Orvieto area. The municipality’s synopsis places Jenny’s journey among Umbrian hills, vineyards and historic villages, turning the hunt for the bottle into a return to her family’s Italian roots.

No individual winery, vineyard or cellar has been identified publicly. The same caution applies to the railway bridge used in the travel imagery. Neither Hallmark nor the Italian location notice names the bridge, so attaching the sequence to a particular railway crossing would be speculation.

Civita di Bagnoregio

Civita di Bagnoregio, the dramatic hilltop village in the Province of Viterbo, has appeared in secondary filming reports. Its stone alleys, old buildings and long pedestrian approach certainly fit the movie’s romantic itinerary.

For now, however, Civita belongs in the reported rather than fully verified column. No local production notice has surfaced identifying the Church of San Donato, Alemanni Palace or the Bishop’s Palace as sets. Those landmarks should not be labelled as definite camera positions solely because they are recognizable attractions in the village.

Bulgaria’s Connection

An official Bulgarian National Film Center document reveals another part of the production. A May 7, 2026 order lists Toast of Italy among projects registered under Bulgaria’s production-cost reimbursement scheme, with Bulgarian Unified Production Organization, or B.U.F.O., as the applicant. B.U.F.O. is a Sofia-based company operating in the film and video industry.

The document confirms Bulgarian production involvement, but it does not name a town, studio or building used on screen. Sofia and Nu Boyana therefore cannot be added as confirmed filming locations without further production records.

Toast to Italy Cast

Torrey DeVitto plays Jenny. She is best known as Natalie Manning in Chicago Med, Melissa Hastings in Pretty Little Liars and Meredith Fell in The Vampire Diaries. Her previous Hallmark work includes Love’s Greek to Me and Rip in Time.

Will Kemp stars as Arrigo. A trained dancer who performed Swan Lake in the West End and on Broadway, Kemp has appeared in Van Helsing, Reign, Spinning Out, The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango and A Not So Royal Christmas.

Yurj Buzzi portrays Giovanni, while Renato De Fazio plays Lorenzo. Hallmark’s current cast page highlights the two leads, but supporting cast listings confirm Buzzi and De Fazio in those roles.

Orvieto ultimately gives Toast to Italy something a studio recreation could not: streets that feel inherited rather than decorated. Its cathedral, fortress and medieval lanes turn Jenny’s search into a journey through a place with its own memory.
