One Night Only takes the familiar “two strangers, one impossible night” rom-com setup and gives it a mischievous dystopian rule. In Will Gluck’s movie, premarital sex is illegal except during a single annual window, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monica Barbaro plays hopeful romantic Allie, while Callum Turner is Owen, a recently dumped man whose carefully planned evening collapses. Abandoned by the people they expected to be with, the pair race through New York and keep finding their way back to each other. Universal Pictures is scheduled to release the film in U.S. theaters on August 7, 2026.

Where was One Night Only Filmed?

Filmed Across New York City

New York is not just named in the story. It is the production’s genuine home. Industry records list New York, NY, as the filming base and October 2025 as the main shoot month. Documented location work continued into November and early December, however, with crews and cast members appearing across several Manhattan neighborhoods. Based on currently available production records and set reports, Manhattan carried the film’s confirmed location work.

That choice gives the movie the restless geography its story needs. Allie and Owen are racing against a clock, separating and repeatedly crossing paths, so streets, subway cars, bars and neighborhood businesses become part of the romance rather than decorative establishing shots.

Little Red Lighthouse

One of the film’s most distinctive sequences was shot at the Little Red Lighthouse in Fort Washington Park. Officially named Jeffrey’s Hook Lighthouse, the red structure stands beside the Hudson River beneath the George Washington Bridge in Washington Heights.

Barbaro and Turner were photographed filming there on October 21, 2025, including a dance and a romantic moment around the lighthouse. It is unmistakably New York but less familiar on screen than Times Square, giving the film a memorable image of two people seeking privacy beneath one of the city’s largest structures.

Upper West Side

The production also moved through the Upper West Side. Local filming notices placed the crew around West 79th Street and Broadway on October 23 and 24. Separate footage identifies another setup at Columbus Avenue and West 82nd Street on October 23, confirming that the neighborhood supplied more than a passing exterior.

That Columbus Avenue stretch connects the movie to Famous Original Ray’s Pizza at 462 Columbus Avenue. Turner said he went directly from the airport to “Ray’s Pizza up on 82nd” for pizza-making boot camp. The preparation supported Owen’s pizzeria job and helped ground that part of the story in a real neighborhood business instead of a generic restaurant set.

East Village and SoHo

Downtown Manhattan supplied a different texture. Barbaro and Turner filmed in the East Village on October 17, while set photography published through Reuters Connect documented the leads shooting in SoHo on November 3. Those neighborhoods bring narrower streets, older facades and the crowded late-night energy suited to a story unfolding during one citywide rush toward romance.

The sightings also show how widely Gluck’s team moved through Manhattan. Instead of relying on one controlled “New York street,” the production assembled its fictional night from neighborhoods with noticeably different visual identities.

The West Village joined the location map later in production. Julia Fox and Turner were photographed filming at the White Horse Tavern on December 2, 2025. The historic bar stands at 567 Hudson Street and has operated in the neighborhood since 1880.

The set photography indicates that Fox’s character crosses directly into Owen’s journey, although Universal’s current cast page does not reveal most of the supporting characters’ names or explain how their encounters fit together. That secrecy is understandable in a movie built around wrong turns, near misses and unexpected companions.

New York Subway

Some of the hardest location work took place below the streets. Barbaro and Turner have said the production filmed on a moving New York subway train rather than relying entirely on a recreated carriage. Public set sightings also captured the pair shooting subway material in November.

Neither the cast interview nor the available set reports identifies the station, route or train line. Gluck has explained that New York suits the story because strangers from different backgrounds share the same streets and subway system. In a film powered by accidental meetings, public transit naturally becomes part of the plot.

One Night Only Cast

Barbaro leads the film as Allie after prominent roles in A Complete Unknown and Top Gun: Maverick. Turner, known for Masters of the Air and the Fantastic Beasts films, plays Owen. Both characters want something more lasting than the hurried encounter everyone around them appears to be chasing.

Universal’s official cast also includes Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, King Princess, Ziwe, Ben Marshall, Molly Ringwald and LeVar Burton. Deadline additionally reported Este Haim among the expanded ensemble. Most supporting role details remain under wraps, preserving some surprise around the people Allie and Owen meet during their frantic night.

Gluck directed the film after rewriting Travis Braun’s original script. The result is being positioned as more than a provocative sex comedy. Its real subject is connection, while its greatest production advantage is New York itself: crowded, unpredictable and always capable of putting two strangers in the same place at exactly the wrong, or right, time.
