The world of Snowfall has changed by the time The Drop: A Snowfall Saga begins. Crack cocaine has devastated communities across Los Angeles, Franklin Saint’s empire belongs to the past, and a different kind of opportunity is beginning to emerge. Wanda Bell sees that opportunity in West Coast rap, convinced that music could become the next great business coming out of the streets she knows so well.
Gail Bean returns as Wanda alongside Isaiah John as Leon Simmons in the FX drama, which moves the Snowfall universe into 1990s Los Angeles. Music, gang politics and the early rap industry are woven closely into the story, making the city more than a background setting. Appropriately, the production stayed close to the world it depicts. Much of The Drop was filmed on location around Los Angeles, including several South LA communities and Long Beach.

Where Was The Drop: A Snowfall Saga Filmed?
The Drop: A Snowfall Saga was filmed primarily in Los Angeles, California, with confirmed location work in Baldwin Hills Estates, better known as The Dons, Baldwin Village or The Jungles, and Long Beach.
These locations come from the cast themselves. During an Essence Fest 2026 conversation, the actors discussed how working in real Los Angeles neighborhoods contributed to the atmosphere of the series. They specifically named The Dons, Long Beach and The Jungles while talking about shooting on location. They also explained that local background performers helped make Los Angeles feel like a genuine part of the production rather than a city being recreated somewhere else.

That fits with reporting from the Los Angeles Times, which noted that much of The Drop was shot on location. Gail Bean described the series as a love letter to Los Angeles and West Coast rap, a description that becomes particularly meaningful considering how extensively the production used the city itself.
Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles served as the main production center for The Drop. An industry production listing for the project, then known simply as the Untitled Snowfall Spinoff, identifies Los Angeles as the filming location for its pilot and gives June 2025 as the shoot period.
The choice allowed the series to retain one of Snowfall’s most recognizable qualities. Instead of separating the characters from South Los Angeles after the original story ended, The Drop follows the community into another transformative period. FX’s official synopsis places Wanda and Leon in 1990s Los Angeles as the aftermath of the crack epidemic overlaps with the rapid growth of West Coast rap.
The production also combined location photography with soundstage work. At Essence Fest, the cast recalled shooting the pilot, taking a break and later returning for the rest of the first season. They spoke about spending considerable time together on a soundstage, although the exact studio facility has not been publicly identified.

The Dons, Baldwin Hills Estates
One of the most specific locations confirmed by the cast is The Dons, the local name for Baldwin Hills Estates in South Los Angeles.
The nickname comes from the neighborhood’s distinctive street names, including Don Luis Drive, Don Felipe Drive and other roads beginning with Don. Los Angeles planning documents identify The Dons as the Baldwin Hills Estates section of the wider Baldwin Hills area.

The Drop’s cast did not reveal which individual houses or streets appear in particular episodes, so it would be speculative to assign specific scenes to an address. What is confirmed is that the production worked in the neighborhood itself. The hillside residential character of The Dons also gives the series another side of South Los Angeles beyond its busier commercial corridors and street-level environments.
The Jungles, Baldwin Village
The production also filmed in The Jungles, another name deeply connected with the geography and history of South Los Angeles.
The Jungles refers to Baldwin Village, located around the Baldwin Hills and Crenshaw area. The name has long been used locally for the neighborhood, which is characterized by dense apartment complexes and streets shaped by the area’s distinctive landscaping and residential development. ABC News has also identified Baldwin Village as the community commonly known as The Jungles.
For The Drop, filming there keeps the physical world of the characters closely tied to real South LA communities. The actors themselves said being in places such as The Jungles influenced their performances and helped create an experience that could not simply be reproduced by production design alone.

Long Beach, California
Long Beach was another confirmed filming area for The Drop: A Snowfall Saga. The cast named the city alongside The Dons and The Jungles when describing the show’s location shooting around Southern California.
Specific Long Beach businesses, streets or buildings used by the production have not yet been publicly identified. For that reason, it is safer to list Long Beach at the city level rather than attach unverified venues to particular scenes.
Its inclusion nevertheless broadens the show’s visual geography beyond central Los Angeles. The Drop is dealing with West Coast rap as a developing cultural movement, and the production’s movement through different parts of the Los Angeles region helps give that world a larger physical scale.

Was The Drop: A Snowfall Saga Filmed in Ghana?
There is currently no reliable evidence that The Drop was filmed in Ghana, despite some online filming-location lists making that claim.
The likely source of the confusion is Gail Bean’s own story about the show’s origins. At Essence Fest, Bean explained that she and Isaiah John were in Ghana filming Snowfall Season 6, Episode 3 when they were first told that a Wanda and Leon spinoff was being considered. She was describing production on the original Snowfall, not filming for The Drop.
The confirmed production information instead points to Los Angeles. The pilot’s production listing names Los Angeles, the cast independently identified several Los Angeles-area shooting locations, and the Los Angeles Times reported that much of the completed series was filmed on location.
That makes Los Angeles the real foundation of The Drop: A Snowfall Saga, both in front of the camera and behind it.
