“The Last Sunrise” arrives on Prime Video on August 26 with Mallorca doing far more than supplying pretty vacation shots. Maia Reficco stars as Oriah “Ry” Pera, a college student whose chronic illness and her mother’s protectiveness have kept much of her life carefully controlled. A summer move to Mallorca changes that when she meets local resident Julián, played by Fernando Lindez, and begins testing what independence actually means for her. Eva Longoria plays Ry’s mother, Isolde, in Carlson Young’s adaptation of Anna Todd’s novel. Prime Video confirms the Mallorca setting and August 26 release.

The film was also genuinely made on Mallorca. Local reporting from the 2025 shoot confirms substantial production in Pollença and Palma, while additional trailer and location analysis identifies Valldemossa and several coastal areas elsewhere on the island. Rather than recreating the Balearics in another Mediterranean country, the production uses the same island where Ry’s summer is supposed to unfold.

Sa Fortaleza, Pollença

The strongest confirmed location is Sa Fortaleza de Pollença, the extraordinary private estate on the Punta de l’Avançada near Port de Pollença.

Local newspapers reported that principal location work began there in August 2025, with Reficco, Lindez and Longoria among the cast working on the island. The estate occupies a peninsula overlooking the Bay of Pollença and contains historic defensive structures alongside later residential additions. Its combination of terraces, stone architecture, gardens and open Mediterranean views makes it an obvious choice for a film built around an affluent summer in Mallorca.

Pollença’s tourism authority dates the defensive origins of the site to the 17th century and notes that it later became a private residence associated with artists who were drawn to the region. Sa Fortaleza remains private property and is not normally open for public visits.

That privacy probably helped the film as much as the view. A large international production could work inside a controlled estate while still capturing genuine coastline, boats and hills without closing a busy resort for every setup.

Port de Pollença and the Old Town

Filming around Pollença extended beyond Sa Fortaleza.

Local production coverage places activity around Port de Pollença, while subsequent reports also identify parts of Pollença’s old town among the areas used during the shoot. Those locations offer a very different side of Mallorca from the estate, with narrow streets, old stone facades, waterfront cafes and the everyday movement of a lived-in coastal community.

That variety matters to Ry and Julián’s story. If every scene took place inside a secluded villa, Mallorca would feel like a resort rather than somewhere Julián actually belongs. Moving into the town and port lets Ry experience the island beyond the protected environment created by her mother.

No complete street-by-street shooting list has been released for Pollença, so individual cafes and storefronts should not be presented as confirmed sets without additional evidence.

Palma: Es Baluard and Santa Catalina

The production later moved south to Palma, and this portion of the shoot is unusually well documented.

On August 28, 2025, Eva Longoria was filmed around the exterior of Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma and in the nearby Santa Catalina district. Local newspaper Ultima Hora photographed the production and described the Palma work as part of the final stretch of Longoria’s Mallorca schedule.

Es Baluard is a particularly useful screen location because it combines contemporary museum architecture with the remains of Palma’s historic fortifications. Santa Catalina, meanwhile, has narrow streets, traditional facades, restaurants and a more residential neighborhood atmosphere.

Together they give the movie a version of Mallorca that is urban without losing the island’s older architectural character. Ry’s story is not limited to beaches, and the Palma material helps the film avoid treating the whole island as one continuous coastline.

Valldemossa

Valldemossa is also reported among the movie’s screen locations and can be identified in promotional footage.

The mountain village sits within the Serra de Tramuntana, far from Mallorca’s flatter resort areas. Honey-colored stone buildings, steep lanes and terracotta roofs create an immediately different atmosphere from Palma or Pollença. Location analysis of the released footage identifies Valldemossa as one of the places used for Ry’s travels around the island.

This is a location where the evidence is stronger visually than through a published municipal filming notice. It should therefore be described as a reported and screen-identified location rather than given the same documentary certainty as Sa Fortaleza or Es Baluard.

Still, its inclusion makes sense. The movie needs Mallorca to feel large enough for Ry’s summer to become an exploration rather than one long stay at a hotel.

Cala Marmols and the Coastal Sequences

The movie’s beaches and open-water scenes appear to draw from several parts of Mallorca.

One of the locations identified from promotional imagery is Cala Marmols, a remote cove on the island’s southern coast. The beach is enclosed by pale limestone cliffs and clear turquoise water, with no large resort development directly surrounding it.

That isolation fits the tone of the romantic sequences particularly well. Ry’s growing independence is repeatedly connected with leaving carefully managed spaces and doing things she normally would have avoided. A quiet cove gives those moments a sense of separation from Isolde’s supervision without the movie having to create a fictional “secret beach.”

Cala Figuera, a traditional fishing village, has also been identified in footage connected to the film. Again, this comes from screen matching rather than a strong local production notice, so it is best treated as a reported secondary location.

When Was The Last Sunrise Filmed?

The best-supported production evidence places the main Mallorca shoot in August 2025, with cameras already working in Pollença by August 23 and moving into Palma by August 28. Broader production tracking indicates that photography continued into September.

The Spanish Film Institute lists the finished movie as a Spain-U.S. co-production, with Spanish company Aquarius Films carrying the majority Spanish production share. The credits also show substantial Mallorca-based production involvement, including Palma Pictures personnel.

That local participation helps explain why Mallorca never looks like interchangeable Mediterranean scenery. Sa Fortaleza provides private luxury, Pollença gives the story a coastal town, Palma adds urban life, and Valldemossa and the island’s coves expand Ry’s world into mountains and quieter shorelines. The locations are not simply there to make a romance look expensive. They make the summer feel like a real break from the life Ry knew before she arrived.
