Peter Parker’s latest fresh start begins at his loneliest point. In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the world still has no memory of Peter, leaving him to fight crime full-time while MJ and Ned move forward without him. Director Destin Daniel Cretton, working from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, has built the fourth Tom Holland-led film around a more isolated Spider-Man and a mysterious threat to New York. The production followed the same back-to-basics instinct: more real streets, moving vehicles and practical stunt work, even though much of its “New York” was created thousands of miles away.
Glasgow’s New York
Glasgow hosted the film’s most public and ambitious location shoot. From late July into August 2025, the Scottish city centre was dressed with yellow taxis, NYPD vehicles, American flags, fake construction sites and altered business signs. Bothwell Street became one of the principal action corridors, where a Spider-Man stunt performer was carried through traffic on a truck-mounted rig. Hutcheson Street later hosted a sequence in which the masked hero clung to the back of an armoured military vehicle.

The production occupied a sizeable section of central Glasgow rather than one easily controlled block. Filming notices covered Wellington Street, West Campbell Street, Blythswood Street, Douglas Street and Pitt Street, followed by work around George Square, Queen Street, South Frederick Street, Ingram Street, Hope Street, Renfield Street and West Nile Street. Merchant City and the streets around Trongate also contributed to the movie’s version of Manhattan.

This was not background photography destined to disappear beneath visual effects. Cretton identified the Glasgow material as the film’s opening action sequence, while Holland emphasised how much of the stunt work was captured in camera, with real vehicles moving and exploding around Spider-Man. The crowds that gathered beside the cordons consequently became witnesses to one of the movie’s largest set pieces.
Pinewood and Basingstoke
After the Scottish leg, production continued at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire for soundstage work and effects-heavy interiors. The shoot operated under the working title Blue Oasis, running from early August until Cretton announced the production wrap on December 19, 2025.

Basingstoke in Hampshire supplied another elaborate New York setup. The area between Fanum House and Mountbatten House was converted into a 1970s-style city block for a stunt sequence involving an army truck, armed police props and Spider-Man being pulled across the roadway. It gave the filmmakers a controlled outdoor space without sacrificing the depth and movement of an actual street.

London and Surrey
The London-area filming was distributed among several very different settings. Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey was used for a graveside scene involving Peter, while Battersea Park provided open parkland and lakeside surroundings. The production was also reported at Senate House in Bloomsbury, whose monumental Art Deco exterior is a familiar screen substitute for government and institutional buildings.

West London contributed Ravenscourt Park and the former Royal Masonic Hospital nearby. These quieter locations sit at the opposite end of the film’s visual scale from Glasgow’s military vehicles and blocked-off avenues, giving the story room for Peter’s personal life between the larger confrontations.

Chatham and Dorchester
Kent’s Historic Dockyard Chatham delivered two particularly distinctive settings. Turk’s Boatyard was transformed into a villain’s lair, while the preserved Royal Navy destroyer HMS Cavalier was also used. The Dockyard’s working waterfront, workshops and Georgian and Victorian buildings offered an industrial environment that would have been expensive to reproduce entirely on a backlot.

Filming was additionally reported at the former HM Prison Dorchester in Dorset. A small amount of New York City photography has also been credited, although the most extensively documented street action and constructed environments were completed in Britain.

Cast Details
Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, alongside Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Jon Bernthal brings Frank Castle, the Punisher, into Holland’s Spider-Man series, while Mark Ruffalo appears as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan. Sony’s principal cast also includes Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and Severance actor Tramell Tillman.

Release Date
The theatrical rollout varies slightly by country. Spider-Man: Brand New Day reaches UK cinemas on July 29, 2026, India on July 30, and the United States on July 31. In India, Sony is releasing the film in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
OTT Release
As of July 29, 2026, no confirmed OTT release date has been announced. Despite the Marvel Studios connection, Brand New Day is distributed by Sony Pictures, so viewers should not assume it will move directly to Disney+ after leaving cinemas.

In the United States, Netflix is positioned to receive the first subscription-streaming window under Sony’s pay-one agreement, but only after the theatrical and home-entertainment periods. Sony and Netflix expanded that partnership globally in January 2026, with the new rights rolling out territory by territory. That makes Netflix the likely eventual home in many markets, but it does not establish an exact streaming date for either the United States or India. For now, any specific Netflix, Disney+ or SonyLIV date circulating online is speculation rather than an announced release.
