A teenage prank is supposed to expose an unfaithful boyfriend in “To Catch a Cheater.” Instead, it becomes the beginning of a murder mystery. Kate Watson plays Monica, a mother whose teenage daughter Hannah dies under circumstances that do not make sense to her, even after authorities appear ready to close the case. Monica’s attempts to find an explanation gradually expose secrets among the families she has trusted for years. Directed by Damian Romay from a screenplay by Rachel Morton, the Lifetime thriller was filmed in South Florida, primarily across the Miami metropolitan area, with reported production activity in Miami, Miami Beach, Hallandale Beach and Hollywood.
Miami Was the Production Base
Miami was the center of the shoot, and the connection is stronger than a generic Florida credit. Casting director Scotty Mullen publicly advertised “To Catch a Cheater” as a non-union feature filming in Miami before production began, while Sunshine Films Florida was one of the companies behind the project. Current credits also list Studio TF1 America and Lifetime among the production companies. Cinematographer Hernan Herrera photographed the movie, which uses bright Florida exteriors almost as a counterpoint to Monica’s increasingly dark investigation.
That contrast is one of the more useful choices in the film. “To Catch a Cheater” does not hide its mystery inside permanently gloomy streets or anonymous interiors. Monica moves through sunlit neighborhoods, restaurants and waterfront spaces while becoming steadily less certain about the people around her. South Florida allows the movie to look open and inviting even when its story is becoming claustrophobic. It is a better fit for this particular mystery than a deliberately sinister location would have been.

South Beach Has a Key Role
Production also reached South Beach in Miami Beach, one of the most recognizable parts of the wider Miami area. Location reporting places cast and crew there during the 2025 shoot, although no official production sheet has identified the exact beach access point, park or street used for individual scenes. That distinction is worth preserving because South Beach covers a substantial area between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay.
The waterfront setting matters more here than it would in an ordinary Lifetime domestic thriller. Hannah’s death is connected to an outdoor area near the water, and Monica repeatedly returns to the circumstances surrounding that night as she tests different explanations. The movie also uses the openness of the coast to make several scenes feel unusually exposed rather than private. The characters can be surrounded by people and wide views while still carrying information no one else knows.

There is no reliable evidence that a famous South Beach hotel or Art Deco property served as a major set. The production appears to have favored the broader coastal environment instead of turning recognizable tourist landmarks into part of the story. That helps the movie maintain the feeling of a residential community rather than a Miami vacation film.

Hallandale Beach Extended the Shoot North
The production travelled north of Miami into Hallandale Beach, another coastal city in Broward County. Hallandale Beach sits between Hollywood and Aventura and offers residential streets, condominium districts, waterways and direct access to the Atlantic within a relatively compact area. Secondary production reporting identifies it as part of the filming route for “To Catch a Cheater.”
No particular Hallandale Beach residence or business has been publicly matched to Monica’s house, Bridget’s home or another character location. That means it would be risky to identify a private property from visual resemblance alone. What can be established is that Hallandale Beach belonged to the location package used to create the characters’ South Florida community. For a production working on a television-movie schedule, having several visual environments close together also reduces travel time between setups.

Hollywood, Florida Also Appears on the Filming Map
Hollywood, Florida, immediately north of Hallandale Beach, was another reported production stop. The city should not be confused with Hollywood, California. This Hollywood is part of Broward County and includes a long Atlantic coastline, the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, suburban neighborhoods and commercial districts that can blend naturally with neighboring Miami-area locations.

Again, the production has not released an address-by-address breakdown. There is currently no solid confirmation tying a specific Hollywood beach, restaurant or private home to one named scene. That makes Hollywood a confirmed broader filming area rather than a location where every screen property can already be identified. The lack of famous landmarks is not a weakness for the movie, since the mystery depends on three connected families living within a believable everyday social circle.

When Was To Catch a Cheater Filmed?
Location reporting places principal photography in September 2025 and into the first week of October 2025. A casting notice for the Miami shoot was already circulating in July, giving the production time to assemble its Florida supporting cast and background players before cameras rolled. The completed film premiered on Lifetime on February 15, 2026.
The production was completed through Sunshine Films, the Florida company founded by Romay, alongside Studio TF1 America and Lifetime. That local connection helps explain why the filmmakers could spread a relatively compact television production across several neighboring South Florida cities rather than trying to reproduce the entire setting on soundstages. Romay has built much of his television-movie career around Florida-based production.
The result is a filming map that is broader than simply “Miami.” South Beach supplies the coastal mystery, while Hallandale Beach and Hollywood extend the residential and suburban world north through Broward County. The movie rarely stops to advertise those places, which is probably the right decision. “To Catch a Cheater” needs its community to feel normal enough that Monica’s discovery of what has been happening inside it becomes disturbing.
