Netflix’s “Blood Sacrifice” takes the familiar darkness of Scandinavian crime fiction and drops it into a season when Stockholm barely gets dark at all. Jakob Oftebro stars as Thomas Berg, a respected investigator hunting a serial killer who appears to be deliberately targeting police officers. The case eventually forces Thomas to seek help from Alfred, his estranged father and a former detective played by Peter Andersson. Created by “Lupin” and “Hijack” writer George Kay and directed by Kristoffer Nyholm, the five-part thriller uses Stockholm’s long summer daylight as part of its tension rather than hiding the city beneath the usual rain and winter gloom.
That setting is authentic. “Blood Sacrifice” was filmed in Sweden, principally in Stockholm and the Stockholm archipelago. Netflix has confirmed both areas as real production locations. Research into the shoot also reveals a less obvious location: part of the series was completed at Independent Studios AB in Saltsjo-Boo, Nacka, where virtual-production technology was used for driving sequences.
Stockholm, Sweden
Stockholm provides the main urban setting and was the center of principal production. When Netflix first announced the series in September 2025 under its earlier title “The Case,” the company confirmed that filming had recently wrapped in the Swedish capital. IMDb also lists Stockholm as the production’s principal location.
The city is not doubling for another European capital. Thomas works in Stockholm, the killings take place around Stockholm, and the production deliberately uses the real city to give the investigation a recognizably Swedish identity. George Kay has specifically pointed to Stockholm’s unusual summer light as one of the reasons the setting became so important to the series. Rather than the near-black nights traditionally associated with Nordic noir, the story unfolds during a season when darkness never completely settles over the city.
That choice changes the visual character of the crime story. Broad waterfront views, pale evening skies and busy summer streets create a strangely exposed atmosphere. The killer is operating in a city that looks bright and awake, yet Thomas is repeatedly confronted with crimes that feel calculated, secretive and deeply personal.
Several recognizable Stockholm landmarks can be seen in wider city imagery, but there is currently no reliable production record confirming places such as Stockholm Palace, Stortorget or the Royal Dramatic Theatre as actual actor filming sites. Those buildings should therefore be treated as possible background landmarks rather than confirmed sets.

Stockholm Archipelago
The archipelago is the second major confirmed location, and it enters the story almost immediately.
The case begins when two officers respond to a reported home invasion at a summer house somewhere in the Stockholm archipelago. They arrive to find an apparently empty property, only for their bodies to be discovered the following day. That crime launches the hunt that eventually brings Thomas and Alfred back into each other’s lives. Netflix explicitly confirms that production filmed on location in the archipelago rather than creating the entire coastal environment elsewhere.
The Stockholm archipelago contains thousands of islands and skerries stretching east of the capital into the Baltic Sea. Summer houses, small docks, forested shorelines and narrow waterways are common throughout the region, which gives the opening crime scene a distinctly local quality rather than the appearance of a generic lakeside retreat.
The exact island used for the summer house has not been publicly identified. Searches of Swedish production reporting do not currently establish Vaxholm, Sandhamn, Varmdo, Dalaro or another frequently filmed archipelago destination as the specific site. Until B-Reel Films or the location department releases that information, identifying a particular island from landscape similarities would be speculation.
That uncertainty does not diminish the archipelago’s role. The isolation works dramatically because Stockholm can feel close in geographic terms while still being separated by water, forest and limited access. A police call that might seem routine in the city becomes much more unsettling when the officers are sent to an isolated summer property with few immediate witnesses.

Independent Studios in Saltsjo-Boo
One of the more interesting production details sits away from the obvious location photography.
VP Nordic has confirmed that “The Case,” now released as “Blood Sacrifice,” used a pop-up virtual-production stage created in partnership with Independent Studios AB. Independent Studios is based at Stenhuggarvagen 11 in Saltsjo-Boo, Nacka, east of central Stockholm.
The stage was not used to replace Stockholm or the archipelago wholesale. Instead, crew accounts reveal that it was employed for driving sequences. Real road footage was displayed around the vehicle while synchronized lighting recreated changing daylight and reflections inside the car. A lighting technician involved with the production described operating driving plates and image-based lighting so the exterior movement, reflections and interior illumination could change together in real time.
For viewers, that means some scenes that appear to show Thomas or other characters driving through Stockholm may combine real Stockholm background photography with actors working inside the Nacka studio.
It is a clever use of technology for a series so dependent on summer light. Instead of hoping every repeated take matches the same sun position and road conditions, the filmmakers could control those elements while still preserving the appearance of an authentic Stockholm journey.
Was Blood Sacrifice Filmed Anywhere Outside Sweden?
There is no evidence that principal photography left Sweden.
The production is an international collaboration between Stockholm-based B-Reel Films, George Kay’s Observatory Pictures and British company New Pictures, but that international partnership should not be confused with the filming locations. Netflix describes the series specifically as having been shot in Stockholm and the Stockholm archipelago.
Some development work took place between Sweden and the United Kingdom. Producer Johannes Ahlund has explained that the writers’ room operated partly in Stockholm and partly in London, bringing British and Swedish writers together. London, however, was a development location, not a confirmed shooting site.

When Was Blood Sacrifice Filmed?
Netflix has not published exact first and final shooting dates. What can be established is that production took place during 2025 and had recently wrapped in Stockholm by September 28, when Netflix formally announced the project. Crew records also place the virtual-production work in September 2025.
The series was still called “The Case” through production and its initial announcement. Netflix later renamed the English-language release “Blood Sacrifice,” while “Blodsoffer” is the Swedish title. The completed five-episode series premiered globally on Netflix on August 20, 2026.
What gives “Blood Sacrifice” its strongest sense of place is not one famous Stockholm landmark. It is the contrast between the capital and the islands around it. Thomas moves through an active modern city while the murders repeatedly pull him toward quieter, more isolated spaces, and the nearly endless summer light follows him into both. Even the studio work in Saltsjo-Boo was designed to preserve that same geography rather than replace it. The result is a crime series that could only convincingly belong to Stockholm.
