The Fix sends a battered group of former CIA operatives into Tehran for a dangerous rescue mission after an earlier operation in Afghanistan goes disastrously wrong. Liam Neeson plays their veteran mentor Larry, while Zachary Levi leads the field team as Tucker in director Guy Moshe’s action thriller, which was originally produced under the title Hotel Tehran. Despite the story’s Iranian setting, the production did not shoot in Tehran. Instead, filmmakers divided the work between the United States and the country of Georgia, using Jackson, Mississippi, and Tbilisi, Georgia, as the movie’s principal filming centers. The contrast gave the production both an American base and a flexible overseas location capable of standing in for the film’s Middle Eastern settings.

Jackson, Mississippi

A substantial part of The Fix was filmed in Jackson, Mississippi, in September 2024. At the time, the project was still known as Hotel Tehran, and the Mississippi Film Office officially listed the feature among productions shooting in Jackson that year. Local television reports also followed Liam Neeson and Zachary Levi as production moved through the Jackson metropolitan area.

Mississippi was not chosen simply because it offered economical production infrastructure. Producer David Lipper told WAPT that the state’s large military and veteran community was particularly valuable for a movie centered on former CIA operatives dealing with the aftermath of Afghanistan. Veterans were hired both behind the scenes and as background performers, giving the American portion of the production a practical connection to the characters’ military world.

The Jackson shoot continued through the end of September before the production moved overseas. Local reporting described Hotel Tehran as one of the larger films to shoot in Mississippi in recent years, with crews working at several locations across the capital region rather than remaining on a closed studio set.

Millsaps College, Jackson

Millsaps College is the best documented individual filming location in Mississippi. Neeson and Levi were both photographed on the Jackson campus while the production filmed there in September 2024. The college confirmed that the actors and crew had been working on site, while local news outlets reported that several scenes were staged around the campus.

The most specific location was the school’s biology and chemistry building, which was transformed into a middle school for the movie. Cars were positioned outside the building to create a school drop-off scene, showing how an ordinary Mississippi campus was adapted to fit a completely different fictional environment.

Millsaps is a private liberal arts college close to downtown Jackson, and its mix of traditional campus architecture and more functional academic buildings gave the filmmakers several visual options within one location. The production’s use of the campus also underlines that not every part of The Fix was intended to resemble Tehran. Mississippi supplied scenes connected to the characters’ lives outside the overseas mission as well as locations flexible enough to be redressed for the story.

Ridgeland and the Jackson Metro Area

The movie also spread into communities immediately outside Jackson. SuperTalk Mississippi reported that the crew was seen earlier in the same filming week outside Mad Genius, a production and creative company based in Ridgeland. The report does not establish exactly which finished scene was filmed there, so it is safer to identify Ridgeland as part of the production footprint rather than claim a particular on-screen location.

Other production reporting has connected the shoot with the wider Jackson and Madison area, including the Lost Rabbit neighborhood in Madison and a Studio 6 property. Those locations have been mentioned in coverage of the film’s Mississippi production, although detailed scene information has not been released publicly. The strongest independently documented Mississippi sites therefore remain Jackson itself and Millsaps College.

That wider metro-area approach allowed the crew to find suburban streets, institutional buildings and commercial spaces without moving a large production far from its Jackson base.

Tbilisi, Georgia

After completing the Mississippi portion, The Fix moved overseas, with Tbilisi, Georgia, serving as the major international filming base. One of the film’s editors later described working on the project during production in both Jackson and Tbilisi, while current production records list Georgia among the movie’s filming locations.

Tbilisi was particularly useful because The Fix needed to create Tehran and other environments connected to the team’s Middle Eastern operation without actually filming in Iran. Georgia’s capital offers a remarkably varied cityscape, with Soviet-era structures, modern development, narrow older streets and industrial areas existing relatively close together. Production design can then alter signs, vehicles and storefront details while visual effects complete the illusion.

The Georgian shoot was more than a brief second-unit visit. Production records identify both Mississippi and Georgia as principal shooting territories, and the crew included personnel specifically connected with the Georgia unit.

The move overseas also followed the schedule reported in Mississippi. WAPT noted in late September 2024 that Hotel Tehran was entering its final week in the Jackson area before heading abroad.

Was The Fix Actually Filmed in Tehran?

No confirmed principal photography took place in Tehran, Iran. The movie’s title during production naturally encouraged the assumption that filmmakers might have shot in the Iranian capital, but the documented production map points instead to Mississippi and Georgia. Tbilisi supplied the adaptable international streets and architecture required for the Tehran-set mission, while Jackson handled a significant portion of the American material.

The same is true of the film’s Afghanistan-related setting. The story begins in the shadow of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, but there is no reliable production evidence that the cast and crew filmed there. The Fix creates its politically sensitive locations through substitute environments rather than sending a major American action production into Iran or Afghanistan.

Why The Fix Used Two Very Different Locations

The production strategy works because Jackson and Tbilisi perform very different jobs. Mississippi provides the quieter American world surrounding the former operatives and gave the filmmakers access to experienced local crews, military veterans and adaptable institutional locations. Georgia provides the density and architectural flexibility necessary for the film’s overseas action.

That split is easy to miss in the finished movie. The Fix moves between personal fallout and a high-risk mission in Tehran, but much of that international journey was assembled from places thousands of miles from Iran. What looks like one continuous CIA operation on screen was actually built from a college campus and neighborhoods in Mississippi, followed by a major overseas shoot in Tbilisi. For a movie once literally called Hotel Tehran, its real production map is one of the more interesting things hiding behind the action.
