Although Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black takes place in Chicago, the Netflix drama has always had a strong connection to Atlanta, and Season 3 continues that unusual two-city production story.

Production information for Season 3 lists Atlanta, Georgia, and Chicago, Illinois as filming locations, with production beginning in December 2025. Atlanta remains particularly important because Beauty in Black is a Tyler Perry Studios production and previous seasons used both Perry’s massive southwest Atlanta studio complex and real Atlanta streets to create the show’s world.

There is another remarkable detail about Season 3: Taylor Polidore Williams says the entire season was filmed in only six days.

Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta is the production center behind Beauty in Black, despite the series’ Chicago setting.

Season 3 production records specifically list Atlanta among the shoot locations, and Georgia’s own production listings included Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black S3 among projects filming in the state in December 2025. That continuation makes sense.

The first seasons of the Netflix drama were already based largely in Atlanta, allowing Perry’s production team to combine controlled studio interiors with city locations whenever the story needed a larger urban scale.

Atlanta also has a creative connection to the show’s premise. Perry has explained that the series was partly inspired by the collision of two worlds he knew well: the hair-care business and Atlanta’s strip-club culture, including the influence of Magic City and the city’s 1990s club scene. The Bellarie story itself is fictional.

One of the clearest publicly documented location shoots for Beauty in Black occurred around Atlanta’s Tech Square.

In February 2025, production temporarily closed parts of Midtown Atlanta overnight. Crews worked around streets between Ponce de Leon Avenue and Fifth Street near Tech Square, with road closures also affecting areas around West Peachtree Street. The permit was specifically connected to Beauty in Black Season 2.

This is important context for Season 3, but it should not be misreported. Those publicly documented Tech Square shoots were for Season 2, not confirmed Season 3 filming.

Season 3 production records establish Atlanta as a location, but detailed public permits identifying every Atlanta street used for the new episodes have not surfaced in the sources available before the premiere.

Yes, Chicago is listed alongside Atlanta in Season 3 production information.

That is notable because earlier coverage often emphasized that Beauty in Black was primarily filmed in Atlanta even though its story is set in Chicago.

Season 3’s production listing indicates that Chicago itself was part of the new season’s production footprint. IMDb’s overall location information for the series likewise lists both Chicago and Atlanta.

What has not been publicly established yet is a reliable list of specific Season 3 Chicago addresses.

Until the episodes arrive or more permit information becomes available, claims that a particular Chicago hotel, mansion or office was definitely used for Season 3 should be treated cautiously.

Why Is Beauty in Black Set in Chicago?

Chicago is more than a generic big-city backdrop for the series.

Perry has connected the premise to the history of Black hair-care businesses and the idea of a wealthy beauty dynasty. He then blended that world with elements inspired by Atlanta nightlife to create the fictional Bellarie empire.

That explains why the production geography can initially feel confusing. Narratively, the Bellaries belong to Chicago. Creatively and logistically, however, Beauty in Black is deeply rooted in Tyler Perry’s Atlanta production system.

Season 3 appears to use both sides of that identity.

Season 3 Was Shot Before Its Surprise Season 4 Renewal

Another interesting wrinkle is that the cast had already finished Season 3 months before its August 27 premiere.

Williams confirmed in March 2026 that Season 3 was already filmed. At that point, the season was still expected to end the series. Netflix subsequently reversed course and renewed Beauty in Black for Season 4.

That means the locations viewers see in Season 3 were chosen and filmed when the production team believed these episodes might represent the final chapter of Kimmie’s story. Instead, the Bellarie empire will continue.
