American Horror Story has never treated location as simple background decoration. From the Los Angeles mansion associated with Murder House to the New Orleans atmosphere surrounding Coven and the New York setting of AHS: NYC, each installment uses architecture and geography to establish its own personality. Season 13 continues that tradition, but the production has…
Netflix’s Habeas Corpus rarely treats São Paulo as anonymous background. The Brazilian legal drama follows Inez Franco, played by Marjorie Estiano, a respected law professor and former criminal defense attorney who forms a group of students to revisit a disputed conviction. Any Gabrielly co-stars as Marina, a student whose interest in Inez and the case…
Netflix’s Minerva Academy places its teenage characters inside a military high school that feels almost removed from modern life. Salvo, Vincenzo, Camilla and the other cadets live among historic corridors, ceremonial courtyards and formal rooms while following rules that ban mobile phones, restrict civilian clothes and demand military-style discipline. Although Minerva itself is fictional, the…
Outlander: Blood of My Blood needed Scotland to perform several different jobs at once. The prequel returns viewers to familiar places such as Castle Leoch and Craigh na Dun, but it also expands the franchise with Lord Lovat’s austere home, the wealthier world of Clan Grant and an entirely separate 20th-century storyline involving Julia and…
Slow Horses has never presented London like a glossy spy thriller. Instead of turning the city into a collection of famous landmarks, the Apple TV series spends much of its time in cramped streets, tired offices, ordinary cafes and corners of the capital that feel lived in rather than staged. TNT’s “High Value Target: The Hunt for Saddam” revisits the months after the 2003 invasion of Iraq from an unusually intimate angle. Joel Kinnaman plays CIA analyst John Nixon, while Waleed Zuaiter portrays Saddam Hussein, with much of the drama moving between the search for the deposed Iraqi leader and Nixon’s later interrogations of him.…
‘Crew Girl’ may send Teagan Tao to an elite school on America’s East Coast, but the lakes, castle and waterfront town surrounding Easton Prep are actually thousands of miles away. Netflix filmed the first season primarily around Greater Victoria on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, with Victoria, Colwood, Sidney and nearby communities standing in…
The world of Snowfall has changed by the time The Drop: A Snowfall Saga begins. Crack cocaine has devastated communities across Los Angeles, Franklin Saint’s empire belongs to the past, and a different kind of opportunity is beginning to emerge. Wanda Bell sees that opportunity in West Coast rap, convinced that music could become the…
Susan Ryeland is once again caught between a murder in the real world and the secrets hidden inside an Atticus Pund novel in Marble Hall Murders. The PBS Masterpiece mystery reunites Lesley Manville and Tim McMullan for the third installment following Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders, but this time the production expands its world considerably.…
MGM+’s A Tale of Two Cities brings Charles Dickens’ famous story back to television with Kit Harington, Francois Civil and Mirren Mack at the center of its complicated love triangle. The four-part adaptation moves between Georgian London and France, but the production did not need to divide its principal filming between the two countries shown…
The Gentlemen expands well beyond Halstead Manor in Season 2, and the change is visible almost immediately. Guy Ritchie’s Netflix crime series was filmed mainly across England and northern Italy, combining aristocratic estates, an airfield, a cathedral, historic mansions and the shores of Lake Maggiore. Badminton House in Gloucestershire returns as Eddie Horniman’s fictional family…
The old streets, grand churches and seemingly untouched houses in Netflix’s Lovesick are not the product of one enormous studio backlot. The Mexican period drama, released under its original title Mal de amores in Spanish-speaking markets, was filmed extensively across Puebla and San Luis Potosí, with additional work in Mexico City and several smaller communities…
